During the frigid winter months, we may hear from customers that their Green Glue product has frozen. Feezing can occur for many reasons, but the primary one is when the product is left outside, in a cold non-insulated environment, or during transport in the middle of winter. We advise customers not to panic as Saint Gobain altered the formula to compensate for this issue.
Some key points to consider regarding the Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound, the freezing issue, and installation. The product must be applied at room temperature conditions within the range of 65°F to 85°F. If the product is frozen, here are some recommended procedures and points to keep in mind.
- Set aside in a conditioned space to allow the product to unthaw.
- Never store the product in a cold environment such as unfinished basements, garages, or outside where the temperature may drop below 60°F.
- Both the Compound and Sealant are Freeze/Thaw stable, and the product is not affected by freezing.
- Move frozen product indoors and do not use until fully thawed. Do not put in hot water or expose to 85°F + temperatures.
- When thawing Green Glue Tubes, place the tubes with the nozzle side down. This process will prevent possible leakage from damaged tube plungers.
- Once the product is fully thawed, it should flow from the tubes or pail. If the product is not quickly dispensing, it means that is not the case, and set it aside for the thawing process to complete.
- Green Glue Noise Proofing Compound is not suitable for exterior applications. During the winter months, installation in an unconditioned space is not recommended. The compound is ineffective as a damping product in cold or hot temps. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions in maintaining the ideal installation temperatures. Failure to do so will compromise the integrity of the product.
